1 Corinthians 11:27 -32 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink [this] cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of [that] bread, and drink of [that] cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause many [are] weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. but when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. (KJV)
Becoming the man or women God wants you to be is really a supreme court issue.
God needs to reign as supreme judge in your heart. The heart and mind of the Lord Jesus is a fixed reference of the perfect blend of confidence, clarity, humility and righteousness. If we could simply move our inward eyes to the heart of Christ we would find a place of mercy soaked fellowship that only builds us up to live the life He wants from His child and never tears down. When we take ourselves to the supreme court of God and his standard of justice on a daily basis we will find it easier to walk in this world.
Confidence, clarity, humility and righteousness are the often elusive but vital combination for the believer. Sure , it is possible to manufacture these but the result is powerless and fruitless living. We by nature being hypocrites exhaust ourselves in the “saving face” mode and attach the prefix “self” to the before mentioned virtues and become self- confident. We bring the hazy into focus by self-clarifying procedures and soulish reasonings. When humility becomes scarce and hard to find we read dead books and find prideful leaders that help us forgive ourselves for our own wonderful pride.
Of all the virtues that one could attach SELF to, righteousness seems to be the most disgusting. The whole of our faith is built on the individual believer seeing a need for personal justice because of what they see, not in the world around them but, in their own vile hearts. How backward and opposite is it to allow self to make self right? How horrible to walk as a follower of Christ and to be found not following Him.
How wonderfully it is to have access to the divine judge that has been assuaged and softened toward us by the power of the cross. How beautiful it is to approach the throne of God as Sons and daughters ready to learn and grow. How incredible an opportunity to be judged and know it is for the purging of self rather than selfs exaltation. Our Lord and Savior allowed Himself to be judged of the father.
Will you go to the supreme court or are you waiting for a subpoena?
