Now I saw in my dream, that the highway up which Christian was to go, was fenced on either side with a wall, and that wall was called Salvation. Isa 26:1. Up this way, therefore, did burdened Christian run, but not without great difficulty, because of the load on his back.

He ran thus till he came at a place somewhat ascending; and upon that place stood a cross, and a little below, in the bottom, a sepulchre. So I saw in my dream, that just as Christian came up with the cross, his burden loosed from off his shoulders, and fell from off his back, and began to tumble, and so continued to do till it came to the mouth of the sepulchre, where it fell in, and I saw it no more.

Then was Christian glad and lightsome, and said with a merry heart, He hath given me rest by his sorrow, and life by his death. Then he stood still a while, to look and wonder; for it was very surprising to him that the sight of the cross should thus ease him of his burden.

What an incredible part in the story when Christian looses the sin burden from of his back. The power of the cross is so wonderfully displayed here by Bunyan.

Why Able Baker, how good to see you're still around. All of us up in Washington wish you well, glad to see The Cup still floating around, it still moves me.

Then said Evangelist, (pointing with his finger over a very wide field,) Do you see yonder wicket-gate? Mt 7:13,Mt 7:14. The man said, No. Then said the other, Do you see yonder shining light? Ps 119:105; 2Pe 1:19. He said, I think I do. Then said Evangelist, Keep that light in your eye, and go up directly thereto, so shalt thou see the gate; at which, when thou knockest, it shall be told thee what thou shalt do.

This is a very good part in the beginning of the book where Evangelist is pointing the way. Evangelist asks him if he sees the light and Christians response was "I think I do." This truly represents the believers faith at it's beginning infant stages. Christian is just beginning his walk toward deliverance from his heavy burden with all kinds of faith, not much clarity in his vision and faithful people like Evangelist sent by God to point the way with confidence.

I wonder who the evangelists in your life have been?
