Sermon Title: Jesus ministry is personal, public and powerful. Mark 1:29–34

Sermon Text: Mark 1:29–34 (ESV)

29 And immediately he left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 Now Simon’s mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. 31 And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them. 32 That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons. 33 And the whole city was gathered together at the door. 34 And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

Sermon Title: Jesus ministry is personal, public and powerful.

1. Personal. vv 29-31
God cares for you personally. We should expect the manifest presence of the king and his kingdom personally today.

2. Public. vv 33
God cares for our community. We should expect the manifest presence of the king and His Kingdom in a community sense today.

3. Powerful. vv 31, 34
The person and work of Jesus brings about spiritual, mental, emotional, physical and volitional healing today.

Side note Topic: Healing:
4 Purposes:
1. a sign of the inaugurated (then) kingdom and the present kingdom (now)…
2. Demonstrates God’s mercy…
3. Helps equip us for ministry (saved to serve)
4. Brings God glory…

The role of Faith in healing…
1. Sometimes the sick persons faith is emphasized…
2. Sometimes the faith of others…

We should pray for healing, expect healing always today (Matt 6:13, 3 John 2)

It is wrong (and can be abusive) to attribute a lack of faith to the absence of healing… God does not always heal.

The source of disease is the result of the kingdom lost (The Fall)
Healing comes from the person and work of Christ on our behalf… (Isaiah 53:4-5, 1 Peter 2:24, Matt 8:16-17)
Ultimate healing will take place for the believer at the second coming.

3 questions:

1.How does Jesus show us that what we cannot observe matters?
2. How does Jesus show us that we cannot find healing through inner exploration?
3. The scriptures give no indication that miraculous healing is not for today… What kinds of things make us skeptical of miraculous healing today?

Hey, thanks for the very thoughtful and beneficial message Sunday.
It’s a no brainer that God does what He will when He wants, and no one can limit Him to their historical timeline. He does heal. And He does not. Both are for His glory.
I don’t speak from naive inexperience – both my daughter and father died, and this in spite of prayer – according to the scriptures – for healing. Thousand around the globe were
Praying … And yet they died. Why? I don’t know. Here’s what I do know.

Our Lord is trustworthy and sovereign.

Wow, Brent thank you for your testimony… you have been through a lot but what an incredible encouragement to hear you say “our Lord is trustworthy and sovereign”. I was blessed to meet you and your family on Sunday.
